Why Powerwall 3
More power per unit. Same 13.5 kWh brick.
Tesla’s Powerwall 3 datasheet lists 11.5 kW continuous, 185 LRA load start, up to 20 kW DC solar on 6 MPPTs, and Heat Mode for cold weather. Powerwall 2 is still 5 kW on-grid / 7 kW off-grid. We install the generation that matches the house—not a default SKU.
Solar installs are not offered yet. Existing arrays can still pair. Home chargers can go in the same electrical design.

Backup, winter, solar charging, Powershare, growth.
Whole-home or essential loads
Tesla markets Powerwall 3 as able to support whole-home backup on a single unit for many houses because of its power rating. That is not a promise for every service and load list. We size whole-home vs a backup load center from your panel, HVAC, well/sump, and what you actually need to keep.
Cold-weather operation
Tesla rates both generations for –4°F to 122°F. Tesla publishes Heat Mode for Powerwall so the battery can keep charge and discharge performance in the cold. Midwest winter is why we talk mounting location and derating on the site visit—not a brochure climate.
Charge on Solar
Tesla Home can send excess solar to a connected EV during the day. Digital Electric installs Powerwall and Tesla home chargers so that path can exist. We are not installing new solar arrays yet—existing solar can still pair.
Powershare
Tesla publishes Powershare so a compatible vehicle can share energy with the home during an outage. That is Tesla vehicle and Tesla Home behavior, not a Digital Electric product. We install the Powerwall and charger infrastructure those features run on.
Stackability & expansion
Need more energy or more power later? Powerwall 2 can add units (Tesla: up to 10 per Gateway). Powerwall 3 can add units and Expansion batteries per Tesla’s current limits. We leave a clean electrical path instead of boxing you into a one-and-done wall.
Tesla Home
The operating system that comes with every Powerwall.
Tesla Home is the home energy management system that comes standard in every Powerwall. Powered by Opticaster, Tesla’s AI optimization software, it predicts your energy needs, automatically adjusts your usage across your electric appliances and can help lower your electricity bills.
Digital Electric is a Tesla Powerwall Authorized Partner certified to install Powerwall 2 and Powerwall 3. We commission Powerwall so Tesla Home can run—we did not build Tesla Home or Opticaster. Solar installs are not offered yet.
Tesla Home comes standard in every Powerwall. When Digital Electric commissions your system, the Tesla app is part of closeout—not a separate product sale.
Where Tesla and the local utility offer a program, Powerwall owners can participate in Virtual Power Plant events in Tesla Home. The app can prepare for a grid event—charging the battery to support the grid and maximize payout—and you can opt out from Home Status. Digital Electric installs the system that enables this. Tesla operates Tesla Home, Opticaster, and VPP.
Use the Tesla app to choose your energy goal to prioritize savings or solar self-consumption. You can also adjust your Backup Reserve to control how much of your stored energy will be saved for outages.
Maximize Your Savings
Opticaster can help you save more by analyzing your energy usage, solar production and local utility prices. Then it decides how and when to use your energy.
Monitor Your System
See what your system is doing throughout the day and adjust your preferences at any time.
Install process
Site and load. Then paper. Then iron.
01
Site & load
Usage, backup priorities, existing solar, panel and service, mounting, and whether a home charger belongs in the same design.
02
Design & quote
Powerwall 2 vs 3, quantity, whole-home vs essential loads, interconnection, and a written scope. Solar installs are not offered yet.
03
Permit & utility
We prepare the electrical and interconnection package for the AHJ and utility. Timelines vary by jurisdiction—we do not invent a standard week count.
04
Install
Mounting, raceway, gateway or backup equipment, labeling—executed to Tesla’s Powerwall 2 or Powerwall 3 install path.
05
Commission & Tesla Home
Bring the system live, pair the Tesla app, set Backup Reserve and energy goals, and hand off closeout. Tesla Home ships with every Powerwall.
Money, paper, warranty
Incentives we will not invent.
Ask us what is actually available on your site. Digital Electric does not run a house loan product, and we will not quote an expired federal residential credit.
Warranty through a certified install
Tesla’s U.S. limited warranty for Powerwall 2 and Powerwall 3 is ten years when the system is installed and registered per Tesla’s terms. Digital Electric is a Tesla Powerwall Authorized Partner, so we follow Tesla’s install and commissioning path that warranty depends on. Tesla writes the warranty; we do not replace it, extend it, or invent extra coverage. We walk through Tesla registration at closeout.
The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit (often called the ITC) is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, per the IRS. Digital Electric will not quote a 30% federal residential credit on a 2026 home install. If a commercial or other federal path might apply to your site, ask us—and confirm with your tax advisor.
Ask us about financing
Ask us about Tesla and third-party financing where it is offered for Powerwall. Digital Electric does not sell an in-house loan, lease, or “Digital Electric financing product.”
Utility time-of-use
Where your utility uses time-of-use or similar rates, Tesla Home can shift when Powerwall charges and discharges. Rate plans vary by NIPSCO, AEP, Consumers, ComEd, and others in this corridor. We design around your actual tariff—we do not invent savings.
Virtual Power Plant
Where Tesla and your utility offer a VPP, Tesla Home can prepare Powerwall for a grid event. Enrollment, payout, and availability are Tesla’s and the utility’s. Digital Electric installs the system; Tesla operates Tesla Home and the VPP.
Live in the Tesla app
Watch every watt. Join a grid event when it pays.
Tesla Home shows solar, home load, Powerwall, grid, and the vehicle as one picture. That app is Tesla’s—not a Digital Electric product. Digital Electric’s job is a Powerwall install that actually comes online in Tesla Home.
Tesla Home app (Tesla software): live monitoring and Virtual Power Plant status. Digital Electric installs Powerwall so Tesla Home can run; Digital Electric did not build this app.
Who it’s for
Homes that cannot shrug off an outage.
Homes that need backup for medical, work-from-home, well, or sump loads
Solar owners who want self-consumption instead of a one-way export (existing arrays—Digital Electric is not installing solar yet)
New construction and remodels where storage can be designed in cleanly
Sites that may add a Tesla home charger on the same visit

FAQ
Straight answers before the site visit.
Do I need solar to install Powerwall?
No. Powerwall can provide backup without solar. If you already have an array, we can pair storage to it. Digital Electric is not installing solar yet—existing solar is welcome.
Powerwall 2 or Powerwall 3?
Digital Electric is certified to install both. Powerwall 3 is Tesla’s current higher-power unit with an integrated solar inverter (Tesla: up to 11.5 kW continuous, 13.5 kWh, up to 20 kW DC solar). Powerwall 2 remains 13.5 kWh at 5 kW on-grid. We confirm the right generation from your loads—not a one-model default.
Can one Powerwall 3 run the whole house?
Tesla markets Powerwall 3 as whole-home capable for many houses because of its power and 185 LRA start rating. That still depends on your service, HVAC, well, and what you keep. We size whole-home vs a backup load center on site.
What is Tesla Home?
Tesla Home is Tesla’s home energy management system. It comes standard with every Powerwall and is powered by Opticaster. Digital Electric installs and commissions Powerwall so Tesla Home can run. We did not build Tesla Home or Opticaster.
Does the federal ITC still apply?
The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, per the IRS. We will not quote a 30% federal residential credit on a 2026 home install. Ask us about Tesla or third-party financing, utility time-of-use, and VPP where they exist. Confirm tax treatment with your advisor.
Who warrants the battery?
Tesla’s U.S. limited warranty is ten years when the system is installed and registered per Tesla’s terms. Digital Electric is a Powerwall Authorized Partner, so we follow that certified install path. Tesla writes the warranty; we do not invent extra coverage.
Can Digital Electric handle a panel upgrade too?
Yes. Service upgrades, backup load centers, and related electrical work sit in the same Digital Electric scope so you are not coordinating two contractors.
